Batman’s next animated feature reminds us the caped crusader can have fun

If you’ve been paying attention to Batman for the last decade or so, you might think he’s a pretty sour guy, but he once had a sense of humor. We got a glimpse of it again in Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, which took the cast and concept behind the 1966 Batman television series and resurrected it with some true-to-life animation. The team behind that gem got the group back together once more for a sequel: Batman vs. Two-Face.

It doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom

Just the title alone is already better than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Two-Face is one of the better villains among Batman’s asylumful, and perfect for a feature like this. He has the tragedy to be an interesting villain, but he’s conceptually so goofy that it’s tempting to laugh at him even in serious Batman stories.

Perhaps the best part of all this is the cast. The late Adam West got to voice Batman one last time, and Burt Ward is the Boy Wonder again. Julie Newmar is back as Catwoman, too. Two-Face, though, is the incomparable William Shatner.

Yeah, this is going to be fun.
