Barry Keoghan is opening up about the onslaught of negative online comments about his physical appearance.
“There is also a nasty side [of fame], and I think I removed myself from online, but I’m still a curious human being that wants to go on,” Keoghan, 33, said on the Friday, March 20, broadcast of SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up radio show. “If I attend an event or if I go somewhere, you want to see how it was received.”
He continued, “It’s not nice, you know, there’s a lot of hate online. There’s a lot of abuse of how I look, and it’s kind of past the point of ‘everyone goes through that’ and everyone does, but it’s made me shy away. It’s made me go inside myself and not want to attend places.”
According to the Saltburn actor, reading overwhelmingly critical fan comments has made him “not want to go outside” at all.
“It’s becoming a problem,” Keoghan said. “I am hiding away. I actually don’t go to places because of these things. When that starts leaking into your art, it becomes a problem because you don’t want to even be onscreen anymore.”
The Irish star further acknowledged how the situation has become “disappointing” for his 3-year-old son Brando’s sake.
“My little boy has to read all this stuff when he gets older,” Keoghan added.
Keoghan, who shares his son with ex Alyson Sandro, previously cited Brando as the reason for his decision to ultimately delete his social media accounts.

“I can only sit and take so much. My name has been dragged across the internet in ways I usually don’t respond to,” Keoghan wrote in a December 2024 statement. “I have to respond now because it’s getting to a place where too many lines are being crossed. I deactivated my account because I can no longer let this stuff distract me from my family and my work.”
Keoghan noted that he had to read “absolute lies” and “disgusting commentary” about his appearance, character and role as a parent that he hopes Brando won’t eventually believe.
“Each and every day, I work harder to push myself on every level to be the healthiest and strongest person for that boy,” he added at the time. “I want to provide opportunities for him to learn, fail and grow. I want him to be able to look up to his daddy, to have full trust in me and know I will have his back no matter what. I need you to [remember] he has to read ALL of this about his father when he is older. Please be respectful to all.”
