Banner Saga 3 might not have pulled in the same amount of Kickstarter dough as the first game, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t going to happen. Stoic Games’ campaign came to a close last night with $416,986 pledged from over 8,000 different backers.
With an initial request of $200,000, that means in pulled in over double what Stoic was looking for. The rest of the funding is expected to flow through the revenue from the first two games.
The final push during the last 24 hours helped the game cross the $350k and $400k stretch goals, meaning that the Eternal Arena and Ubin Lives expansions will be included with the final product.
Banner Saga’s creation, from the record-setting original Kickstarter to the copyright issues with King to returning to Kickstarter for the final game, has been like one giant viking saga of its own. The fact that it is concluding with this game and wrapping up and impressive indie run gives it its own page in video game history. Congrats to Stoic Games for being so stoic through it all.
