Nerds! Everywhere, glorious nerds. Well, in this case, I suppose we could have expected a NASA Jet Propulsion scientist to make a Dungeons Dragons reference. That fits the bill perfectly, in all honesty.

In an official release from NASA detailing asteroid 2017 BQ6, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory scientist Lance Benner described the asteroid as it features “relatively sharp corners, flat regions, concavities, and small bright spots that may be boulders.” Benner went on to say that “asteroid 2017 BQ6 reminds me of the dice used when playing Dungeons and Dragons. It is certainly more angular than most near-Earth asteroids imaged by radar.”

Fantastic.

He’s not wrong, though

Take a look at the radar images captured using NASA’s Goldstone Solar System Radar in California. Yep, those look like Dungeons Dragons dice to me.
