Nintendo has confirmed that its planned Animal Crossing mobile game has been delayed, and it won’t be released until at least next fiscal year. That essentially means it could release anytime from April 2017 until March 2018.
Last year, Nintendo planned to release a Fire Emblem game and an Animal Crossing through iOS and Android, its first mobile games from established franchises. However, resources were instead poured into Super Mario Run, which was pushed onto the market to right the most of Pokemon GO’s wake.
As we enter 2017, Fire Emblem Heroes is still happening this week, and yours truly would never miss out on the chance to play that. However, Animal Crossing seems to have been the one most affected by Nintendo’s shift in priorities for Super Mario Run.
For smart devices, we plan to release the game application Fire Emblem Heroes on February 2. We will also follow last December’s release of Super Mario Run for iOS with an Android version in March. To accommodate the releases and operation of these applications, we have revised the release schedule for Animal Crossing, which we had originally planned to release during this period. This title will be released during the next fiscal year.
I can already imagine my digital town overflowing with weeds and other issues that need my immediate attention. Between Mario, Animal Crossing, and Fire Emblem, Nintendo is going to dominate my smartphone gaming time.
Terra Battle, you might have finally met your match!
