The first domino of the upcoming MLB trade deadline has fallen for the New York Yankees.

According to multiple reports, the Yankees are acquiring outfielder Andrew Benintendi from the Kansas City Royals. YES Network was the first to report transaction.

The Yankees will send prospects Chandler Champlain, Beck Way and TJ Sikkema to Kansas City, according to The Athletic.

The news comes as the Yankees were swept in their two-game Subway Series with the New York Mets in Citi Field. New York has played to an under-.500 record in the July after getting off to a historic start to the season.

“[The Benintendi trade] will give us a real pump-up for sure,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said following a 3-2 loss to the Mets. “He’s obviously a great player. We’ll certainly welcome him and get him assimilated.”

Benintendi, 28, is hitting .320 this season along with a .387 on-base percentage and 39 RBIs. He has just three homers on the year.

“It will definitely be a big piece to what we have going on here,” Aaron Judge told reporters after the Yankees’ loss on Wednesday. “He’s a well-rounded player, that’s for sure.

“I think adding a guy like that will give us a real pump-up, that’s for sure.”
