UCLA senior gymnast Nia Dennis performed an epic floor routine celebrating “Black Excellence” that went viral.
The routine was nearly perfect, scoring a 9.95 out of 10, in the Bruins’ gymnastics meet win over Arizona State on Sunday
In Dennis’ routine, she paid homage to her father, Casey, who stepped in college. She stepped to the Kendrick Lamar song, “DNA,” a song that highlights the rapper’s culture and heritage. The closing song, Tupac’s “California Love,” was paying respect to Los Angeles.
“This routine definitely reflects everything that I am today as a woman and of course I had to incorporate a lot of parts of my culture,” Dennis told The Los Angeles Daily News.
Last year, Dennis scored another near-perfect performance of 9.975 out of 10 in which she used a Beyoncé medley of “Crazy In Love,” “Lose My Breath,” and “Ego.”
