agreed to trade star quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos, the Seahawks also informed eight-time Pro Bowl linebacker Bobby Wagner that he will be released, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.
Wagner, 31, was the last remaining player on the team who played in the Super Bowl victory over the Broncos in the 2013 season.
He was a second-round pick out of Utah State in 2012 alongside Wilson, who was selected in the third. Together, the two would become the leaders for the most successful run in franchise history.
Wagner served as the heartbeat of Seattle’s “Legion of Boom” era defenses. He was named to the NFL’s 2010s All-Decade Team and selected as an All-Pro six times.

In 2021, Wagner posted a career-high 170 tackles despite missing nearly two full games to end the season due to a knee sprain. He exits as the Seahawks’ all-time leading tackler with 1,381.
Wagner was set to have a $20.35 million salary cap charge in the final year of his contract. His release will save the Seahawks $16.6 million in cap space.
