Raiders quarterback Derek Carr will have a ride to work in the morning — if he can manage to get up at 3 a.m. as his boss often does.Â
Carr, under contract with the Raiders until 2022, bought an under-construction home in the Las Vegas area that will make him next-door neighbors with his coach, Jon Gruden, his brother David Carr first told NFL Network.Â
Gruden is known to go particularly hard on his quarterbacks, and the QB-coach relationship will be on full display this year as the team stars in HBO’s “Hard Knocks.”
“We are next-door neighbors,†Derek Carr, 28, told reporters Saturday. “We will be, yes, but that’s for the future. That’ll be fun. Hopefully a lot of knocks on the door. Maybe we can carpool. That would be good for us. We might knock down the fence and just make it one. We’ll see.â€

Gruden, who owns a home near the team’s new facility in Henderson, Nevada, was surprised when he heard the news from reporters Saturday.Â
“Really?†Gruden said. “I love Derek. We can have meetings at night now, we can have barbecues together. It’s great. Great family and proud to be with him.â€
The home Carr purchased is still under construction. The Raiders have one final season in Oakland before moving to Las Vegas for the 2020 campaign.Â
