Ole Miss defensive tackle Tywone Malone hits game-winning home run for Rebels baseball team

He crushes baseballs, too.

Tywone Malone, a freshman defensive tackle and first baseman playing two sports at Ole Miss, crushed a 404-foot home run to trigger the mercy rule and give Ole Miss baseball (6-0) a 14-3 win over VCU on Sunday.

The home run came in Malone’s second career at-bat. But even that freshness doesn’t underscore how impressive it was. Malone’s junior high school season was shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic and he didn’t play his senior season as he was rehabbing from knee surgery. In effect, Malone just hit a home run in his second major at-bat in three years.

In his first season on the gridiron with Ole Miss football, Malone made three tackles with one sack. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 310 pounds, Malone is a former four-star recruit and was the No. 1 recruit in New Jersey in his signing class.

Ole Miss baseball is 6-0. Malone backs up preseason All-America first baseman Tim Elko.
