The New England Patriots have been stripped of a third-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft as part of the organization’s penalty for filming the Cincinnati Bengals’ sideline during a game last December, NFL spokesman Michael Signora confirmed Sunday.
The Patriots also were issued $1.1 million in team fines and have had their television production crews barred from shooting any games this season.
ESPN was first to report the NFL’s penalty.
In a statement last year, the team said an independent production crew hired to record footage on an advance scout for its online “Do Your Job” series “unknowingly violated a league policy by filming the field and sideline from the press box” during a Dec. 8 game between the Bengals and Cleveland Browns. The Patriots visited the Bengals the following week and won, 34-13.
