From war room to panic room: Trevor Lawrence sent Jaguars to voicemail three times during NFL draft
Even though Trevor Lawrence was the presumed first overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, he still had those in the Jacksonville Jaguars front office on the edge of their seat after he did not pick up his phone while on the clock.
In their YouTube series, “The Hunt,” the Jaguars gave a look into their draft war room as they were on the clock for the first overall pick. Even though they were ready to pick Lawrence, general manager Trent Baalke said the league told them they couldn’t make the pick right away.
“They said you have to wait seven minutes to turn in the card, so we didn’t pick up the phone to call him. We just sat there, and he’s sitting on his end wondering why we haven’t called him,” Baalke said.
