Former 49ers and Saints linebacker Parys Haralson dies at 37

Former San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints linebacker Parys Haralson has passed away, the 49ers announced Monday. He was 37.

No cause of death was disclosed.

“The 49ers are heartbroken and shocked by the news of Parys’ tragic passing,” the 49ers said in a statement. “Parys was a beloved member of our organization that lived life with an extraordinary amount of passion and joy, while leaving an indelible mark on everyone he came across. We extend our condolences to Parys’ family and loved ones.”

Haralson played for the 49ers from 2006-2012, and then played two seasons for the Saints. After his playing career, Haralson served as the 49ers’ director of player engagement for two years. 

Haralson was a fifth-round selection in the 2006 NFL draft out of the University of Tennessee, where he was a captain for the Volunteers during his senior season.

Haralson started 118 games in his nine-year NFL career, registering 28 sacks. He had a career-high eight sacks in 2008.
