After a COVID-19 outbreak within the Memphis football program, the Tigers and Houston have mutually agreed to postpone their game Friday at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium, the American Athletic Conference announced Saturday.
The AAC will work with both schools to reschedule the game.
The Tigers announced Friday that they had paused football activities due to the outbreak. A person with knowledge of the situation told The Commercial Appeal that at least 20 people within the program tested positive and 20 additional people were quarantined.
“I am disappointed that we will be unable to play the Houston game at this time, but a season without a pause or change was always going to be unlikely,” Memphis athletic director Laird Veatch said in a statement. “We will continue to closely monitor all of those impacted and do what is best for the safety and health of our student-athletes, coaches and staff.”
