Herman went 32-18 in four seasons at Texas, including victories in all four bowl games that the Longhorns appeared in during his time there. His best season was in 2018, when he led Texas to a 10-4 mark and a victory over Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.
Texas hired Steve Sarkisian in Herman’s place.
Before coaching at Texas, Herman was the head coach at Houston, where he went 22-4.
Herman got on the national radar after a three-year stint as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator under then-coach Urban Meyer, who is currently the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his final season with the Buckeyes in 2014, Herman won the Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant coach and helped Ohio State win the national championship.
Herman joins a Bears offense that has struggled at times under the direction of coach Matt Nagy and quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. This will be Herman’s first job experience in the NFL.
