Brittney Griner Writes Letter to Biden Pleading for Release

“President Biden has been clear about the need to see all U.S. nationals who are held hostage or wrongfully detained abroad released, including Brittney Griner. The U.S. government continues to work aggressively — using every available means — to bring her home,” Watson said.

She added that “the president’s team is in regular contact with Brittney’s family.”

However, speaking to “CBS This Morning” on Tuesday, Griner’s wife, Cherelle, said the family had still not received a reply from the president, calling it “very disheartening.”

She said the White House was not doing enough to secure Brittney’s release, and added that she would no longer heed the government’s requests to let U.S. officials “handle this behind the scenes.”

“I will not be quiet anymore,” said Cherelle. “My wife is struggling and we have to help her.” She said that Brittney also told her in correspondence that she was physically “weak,” but reassured her about her mental health.
