Nick Saban is Nick Saban. Kirby Smart has Georgia, his alma mater, playing for a national title for the second time in his six seasons at the helm of the Bulldogs. But there is still more college head coaching experience around both programs. Matt Luke, who oversees Georgia’s offensive line, used to be in charge at Mississippi. The offensive coordinator for the Bulldogs, Todd Monken, led Southern Mississippi. (Georgia’s defensive coordinator, Dan Lanning, has been hired as Oregon’s next coach.) Georgia also has a defensive analyst with plenty of fame: Will Muschamp, the former head coach at Florida and South Carolina. But Alabama has ample experience, too: Bill O’Brien, the offensive coordinator, led Penn State, and Doug Marrone, who coaches the Crimson Tide’s offensive line, used to be atop the Syracuse program.
