New babies announced with classical stone songs during south Calgary hospital

Lullaby renditions of classic stone favourites are welcoming babies into a universe during a south Calgary hospital.

Parents of infants innate during South Health Campus can name one of 8 songs to play over a loudspeakers to announce their new child.

The list is infrequently specific.

All a songs are from a same ubiquitous genre: 4 from Queen, one from any Bon Jovi and a Eagles, dual from a Rolling Stones — strangely including a band’s You Can’t Always Get What You Want (You Get What You Need).

“But we get what we need,” women and children’s health executive executive Joanne Cabrera pronounced with a chuckle. “Could have been anticipating for a child though got a girl. You never know.”

Cabrera spoke to the Calgary Eyeopener on Wednesday morning about a singular program, famous as “music notes,” that’s well-loved by sanatorium staff.

The thought came about after South Health Campus non-stop in 2012, she said. A staff member pitched a thought to a hospital’s adults committee, whose members loved a idea.

They drew adult a list of tunes.

“We finished adult with songs that have a good message,” Cabrera said. “And afterwards [turned] them into a lullaby creations.”

The full strain list includes:

  • We are a Champions by Queen.
  • Bicycle Race by Queen.
  • You’re my Best Friend by Queen.
  • Somebody to Love by Queen.
  • Brown Sugar by a Rolling Stones.
  • You Can’t Always Get What You Want (You Get What You Need) by a Rolling Stones.
  • Peaceful Easy Feeling by a Eagles.
  • Always by Bon Jovi​.
