An Annapolis Valley couple in their 90s who were forced to live detached after what their family called “a deeply flawed” assessment from a Nova Scotia Health Authority have been reunited in a same nursing home.

Edwin and Marjorie Crossland lived together in their possess house for some-more than 70 years, yet were separated last tumble after their health took a spin for a worse.

Edwin finished adult in a hospital, so Marjorie, who has dementia, was placed in a Orchard Court nursing home in Kentville, N.S., that provides a top turn of care.

But a continuing-care comment done at a hospital where Edwin was staying deemed him too healthy to live in a identical trickery on his release.

Instead he bounced between residential comforts and a hospital, descending several times, despite his family perfectionist he be placed in nursing care.

The couple’s granddaughter Tammy Crossland, who works in nursing home caring herself, appealed a health authority’s decision, arguing that her grandfather met all a criteria for nursing home care.

A re-evaluation was systematic in March, and Tammy says a health management sensitive her Mar 23 that Edwin, in fact, did accommodate a mandate required to receive a mark in a nursing home.

“He was a small teary because he is emotional,” she said. “He went to his room, and was shown around. [Then] he went right to Nan’s room and spent a whole day with her.

“Right now he’s only so happy to be there with her. He’s doting on her.”

Tammy pronounced a deputy for a health management told her they stood behind a strange comment that was finished on Edwin in a fall.

“[He told me] nonetheless he was station by a hospital’s decision, they were means to see that my grandfather had declined severely given he had left a sanatorium and indispensable long-term caring nursing home,” Tammy said.

Tammy says given her grandfather finished adult in sanatorium in September, he fell mixed times and had problem soaking and sauce himself.

“From a nursing indicate of view, it does not make clarity to me. we don’t know if there was miscommunication between a nurses. I don’t feel like they indeed went in and did a full comment on him. we don’t know how they watched him rinse and dress himself.”

Tammy pronounced she hopes a health management takes a closer demeanour during how hospitals evaluate people for nursing home care.

“It was really unfair. This could have been dealt with. They could have been sent to a nursing home together [in November],” she said.

“It felt like a fight.”
