Famous friends back Bella Thorne over Whoopi Goldberg's 'awful' views on photo scandal

Bella Thorne struck back after Whoopi Goldberg shared her opinion on the nude photo scandal on “The View.”

Bella Thorne is flatly rejecting Whoopi Goldberg’s criticisms after her nude photo scandal.

And now the 21-year-old actress has some famous friends, including Zendaya, Lily-Rose Depp, Dove Cameron and Lucy Hale, offering support.

Thorne recently posted several topless photos to her Twitter account, saying she meant to thwart a hacker who had been threatening her with her own photos.

“I feel gross. I feel watched, I feel someone has taken something from me that I only wanted one special person to see,” she wrote on Twitter, noting that she was reclaiming her power.  “It’s MY DECISION” and “NOW U DON’T GET TO TAKE YET ANOTHER THING FROM ME,” she tweeted.

But on “The View” Monday, Whoopi Goldberg had another take.

“If you’re famous, I don’t care how old you are. You don’t take nude pictures of yourself,” Goldberg said. “When they are hacking you, they are hacking all of your stuff. So whether it’s one picture or a million pictures, once you take that picture, it goes into the cloud and it’s available to any hacker who wants it and if you don’t know that in 2019, that is an issue. I’m sorry. Your age does not – you don’t get to do that. You don’t get to do it.”

An upset Thorne struck back on Instagram, accusing Goldberg of victim-blaming.

“Dear Whoopi, I have loved you for so long but honestly I’m so displeased and saddened by your response to my leak. Blaming girls for taking the photo in the first place? Is sick and honestly disgusting,” she wrote in a note posted to her account.

“I’m offended for anyone out there who has ever taken a sexy photo. I am offended for Jennifer Lawrence who feels publicly raped. I am offended for every person who has committed suicide for someone leaking their nudes. Ur view on this matter is honestly awful and I hope u change ur mindset as u are a show talking to young girls.”

Thorne’s fellow actresses came to her aid on social media.

In one Instagram post, Thorne said Zendaya “called me today to make sure I was ok, we talked a lot about this generation, the one before us as well, and how as women we shouldn’t feel bad about ourselves our bodies.”

Hale offered support in a message Thorne shared on Instagram: “Good for you baby girl. I’m so proud of you for speaking up.”

Depp offered support in a message to Thorne and, while not criticizing Goldberg by name, turned her ire in that direction.

“Proud of you for what you did and how you’re speaking out about it. You’re absolutely right and anyone who’s saying otherwise is just wrong, living in another century, and completely unconcerned by what repercussions words like that might have as it relates to young people and how they view their sexualities and bodies. Sending you love and I would have done the same thing!!!!!!” she wrote.

Cameron aimed her criticism at Goldberg in an Instagram post: “sexuality is part of being HUMAN. but judgment and objectification is not. ugh, I can’t handle to ugly. @WhoopiGoldberg”

Thorne said she was canceling her upcoming appearance on “The View.”

“I don’t really want to go on ‘The View’ anymore because I don’t really want to be beaten down by a bunch of older women for my body and my sexuality.”

USA TODAY has reached out to Goldberg for comment.
