President Trump is kicking off his visit to the U.K. by keeping things determinedly civil with Duchess Meghan.

The president, who arrives Monday for a three-day state visit timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings, gave an interview Friday to the British paper The Sun ahead of his trip.

Next week he and the first lady will meet with royals including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Prince William and Duchess Kate. But Trump is not expected to exchange pleasantries with Duchess Meghan, who is currently on maternity leave with one-month-old Master Archie.

Still, the Brits wanted to get a load of what he thought of the former American actress’ politics.

Told by The Sun that Meghan had not been a fan of his when he was a candidate in 2016 – the Los Angeles native called him “misogynistic” and “divisive” during his presidential run – Trump insisted this was news to him.

“I didn’t know that,” he responded evenly. “What can I say? I didn’t know that she was nasty.”

Markle, who appeared on Comedy Central’s “The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore,” in 2016, had said, “You’re not just voting for a woman, if it’s Hillary, because she’s a woman. But certainly because Trump has made it easy to see that you don’t really want that kind of world.”

But on Friday, instead of hitting back in his usual fashion, Trump demurred, even when told by The Sun she’d threatened to move to Canada if he won.

“A lot of people are moving here (to the US), so, what can I say?” he said.

But the president seemed surprised when told he wouldn’t be rubbing elbows with Meghan. “I didn’t know that,” he said. “I hope she is OK.”

Overall, Trump predicted Meghan will make “a very good” royal, adding that he was “sure she will do excellently.”

“She will be very good. I hope she does (succeed),” he said.
