President George H.W. Bush gets tributes at Kennedy Center Honors program; Nick Jonas, Priyanka Chopra post wedding on social media; “Ralph” repeats as No. 1 in the U.S., “Crazy Rich Asians” flops in China. (Dec. 3)
Priyanka Chopra and Ralph Lauren spared no detail in her blockbuster dress for the actress’ wedding to Nick Jonas this weekend.
Lauren designed Chopra’s gown for her Christian ceremony to Jonas, held Saturday at the Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, India. It was the second phase of the couple’s three-day wedding spectacular, which also included a Hindu ceremony Sunday.
The two ceremonies – a traditional Indian wedding and a Christian service Saturday officiated by Jonas’s father – were each held in different spots at the palace in Rajasthan.
For the Christian ceremony, Chopra wore a hand-beaded and hand-embroidered dress from Lauren, featuring a high collar and 135 satin-covered buttons, featuring embroidery that took a total of 1,826 hours to complete.
Hand-stitched into Chopra’s embroidery was a piece of her mother-in-law’s own lace wedding dress, as well as eight words and phrases meaningful to the bride: family, hope, compassion, love, “Nicholas Jerry Jonas,” “1st December 2018” (their wedding date), “Madhu Ashok” (the names of her mother and father, and “Om Namah Shivay” (a Hindi mantra invoking Lord Shiva).

Underneath the long-sleeve gown, she wore a strapless column dress made of nearly 2.4 million mother-of-pearl sequins. Capping off the dramatic look was Chopra’s veil, which fanned out 75 feet behind her.Â
Meanwhile, Jonas wore a six-button double-breasted black tuxedo and patent lace-up dress shoes by Ralph Lauren, who also designed the outfits for the rest of the wedding party.Â
Inside the lapel of Jonas’ tuxedo was embroidered a small piece of lace from Chopra’s gown, stitched with the Urdu words “my jaan,†which translates to “my life.”
For their Hindu ceremony on Sunday, the couple both wore traditional Indian outfits. Chopra looked regal in a traditional red lehenga from the Indian designer Sabyasachi, featuring a veil, skirt and cropped top that took 110 embroiderers from Calcutta, India, 3,720 hours to craft.
As she did with her Ralph Lauren gown, Chopra requested that the names of Jonas and her parents be embroidered in the waistband of her skirt.Â
