The Sandy Fire in the Simi Valley area has Southern California residents on high alert as strong winds threaten to push the blaze to the celebrity enclaves of Hidden Hills, Calabasas and Thousand Oaks, where dozens of A-listers own homes.

More than 17,000 people were under evacuation orders in the area on Tuesday with 1,400 acres already burned, according to the Associated Press.

The fire is just 5% contained as of Tuesday afternoon local time.

Simi Valley, located 40 miles northwest of Los Angeles, is home to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, where the 40th president of the United States and his wife Nancy Reagan are buried.

It is also where rock star Bret Michaels of the band Poison owns a home.

Michaels took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a video from his home where smoke could be seen in the background.

‘To all our Southern California friends fans in the path of this current fire, please stay safe. We are thinking of you grateful for our awesome firefighters!’ he shared.

And the flames are now reportedly threatening nearby Hidden Hills and Calabasas, where Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian own their mansion. Their mom, Kris Jenner, resides in the area too.

Jennifer Lopez is also finalizing renovations on her new $21 million home there.

Meanwhile, another celebrity enclave, Thousand Oaks, sits on the other side of Simi Valley.

Should the winds turn, it could threaten that area, where Britney Spears, Heather Locklear, Jamie Foxx and Tom Selleck all own mansions.

Spencer Pratt, who is running for Mayor of Los Angeles, criticized current Mayor Karen Bass in several posts to X Monday over her handling of last year’s devastating Palisades Fire while drawing comparisons to the ongoing Sandy Fire.

Pratt lost his home in that blaze, which erupted in January 2025.

‘While Karen Bass is worried about getting meth-heads new grills, the LAFD [Los Angeles Fire Department] has 3 dozen LESS firefighters than we had when the Palisades Fire hit. Folks, you need to vote like your life depends on it, because it does,’ he wrote.

The wind-driven Sandy Fire was reported Monday in the hills above Simi Valley.

By Tuesday, it had consumed 1,400 acres, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.

The flames were initially pushed by gusts that topped 30 mph (48 kph), but firefighters were aided by calmer winds overnight, said department spokesperson Andrew Dowd.

‘We’ve made a lot of progress against this fire with those improved weather conditions,’ Dowd said. Crews hoped to make further progress before winds increased again, he said.

The cause is under investigation.

The flames could also be heading toward Thousand Oaks, where Britney Spears owns a home. Seen in 2018

Evacuation orders and warnings are in place for several neighborhoods in Simi Valley.

TheSchool District has closed its campuses and canceled all classes for Tuesday.

Meanwhile, firefighters were battling a 23-square-mile (59-square-kilometer) blaze on Santa Rosa Island, off the Southern California coast.

That fire destroyed a cabin and an equipment shed and forced the evacuation of 11 National Park Service employees.

Additionally, in Riverside County, south of Los Angeles, a third huge blaze has broken out, fueled by strong winds.

The Bain Fire in Jurupa Valley, 50 miles east of Los Angeles, has torched at least 600 acres of dry vegetation since breaking out on Tuesday morning.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the fast moving brush fire is 0% contained.

This comes as Southern California is still reeling from the Palisades and Eaton Fires that destroyed swaths of West and East Los Angeles last year.

The Palisades Fire was a destructive wildfire that began in the Santa Monica Mountains of Los Angeles County on January 7, 2025, and grew to destroy large areas of Pacific Palisades, Topanga, and Malibu before it was fully contained on January 31.

One of a series of wildfires in Southern California driven by extremely powerful Santa Ana winds, it spread to 37 sq mi (95 km2), killed 12 people, and destroyed 6,837 structures, making it the 10th-deadliest and third-most destructive California wildfire on record and the most destructive to occur in the history of the city of Los Angeles.
