Leslie Jones is taking a stand against the 2020 Academy Awards for the lack of diversity when it comes to black nominees.
The actress and comedian, who’s been a member of the Oscars voting pool the last few years, only voted in categories that included people of color.
‘Welp I just finished voting for the Oscars,’ the Saturday Night Live alum began in statement show posted on Instagram and Twitter.
‘It didn’t take long cause there are no black people on it. So I voted for @cynthiaerivo and abstained from the rest,’ along with the hashtag #moreblackpeopleplease.

Jones also gave a special shout out to Eviro by wishing her ‘good luck’ in the caption of the post.
Erivo, who’s nominated for Best Actress for her portrayal of abolitionist and activist Harriet Tubman in the biopic Harriet, is the only black nominee for this year’s ceremony.

In comparison to 2020, the acting categories last year included five people of color with Mahershala Ali winning for Green Book; Regina King for If Beale Street Could Talk; Rami Malek for Bohemian Rhapsody; while Roma’s Yalitza Aparicio and Marina De Tavira were also nominated.
The lack of diversity at the Oscars has been a topic of contention for many years, which was highlighted by the #OscarsSoWhite movements in 2015 and 2016.
Jones is best known for her work as a cast member and writer on Saturday Night Live from 2014 to 2019 and her role in 2016’s Ghostbusters.
She’s also had a long career as a stand-up comic that began back in 1987.
The 92nd Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 9, at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT on ABC.
