If you’re interested in learning about Spain and its food scene this winter, you won’t even need to leave your couch.
José Andrés and his daughters Carlota, Inés and Lucia are taking viewers on a journey through their father’s home country in a new six-part series “José Andrés and Family in Spain,” which premieres Dec. 27 on Discovery+.
“I think we all went through this pandemic with our family together. And I think this is a moment that we value the power of family, but also we kind of value the power of traveling and discovering,” Andrés says.
They immerse themselves in food and culture, with highlights including:Â
- Barcelona and Catalonia for a reunion stop at the famed El Bulli, where Andrés had a “big break.”
- Andalusia to try renowned bluefin tuna and dance flamenco.
- Madrid for street food, cookies traditionally made for royalty, suckling lamb and Iberico ham, widely considered the world’s best.
- Valencia for paella lessons and a competition.
- Asturias, where Andrés was born, for seafood, cheese making and more. Â

“I appreciate everything my dad does so much more after this experience,” Carlota Andrés tells USA TODAY via email. “He’s always been so busy but the fact that family is still so important to him, and him being able to put that first even though he has so much going on, was really clear from doing this show together.”
