Where does ‘Encanto’ take place? 

“Encanto” is set in Colombia. Although the exact town “Encanto” takes place in is fictional, it is inspired by real places. Members of the film’s crew spent two weeks in Colombia to research. 

According to Condé Nast Traveler, directors Byron Howard and Jared Bush visited many places throughout the country, including Bogotá, Salento, Barichara and Cartagena.

“Encanto” is about a family living in a small mountain town in Colombia. But the Madrigal family is anything but ordinary. Nearly every child has their own magical gift — all but Mirabel.
