Dave Grohl’s daughter Violet Grohl has reacted to his ex-girlfriend Jennifer Finch’s shock death at age 59.
On Saturday night Violet, 20, left a comment on the Instagram post announcing that the former L7 bassist and singer died after battling cancer.
A caption on Finch’s account read, ‘We are devastated to announce the death of our partner, sister, daughter, and friend Jennifer Precious Finch.’
‘Jennifer’s impact on the world of music was seismic; her impact on our lives, even moreso. We appreciate everyone’s interest and concern, thank you for all the kind messages. We appreciate some space to heal privately during this difficult time.’
Violet expressed sorrow upon hearing the news, writing under the post, ‘this is so devastating, she was such a force xx made so many feel so seen. rest in peace legend.’
The 57-year-old former Nirvana drummer and Finch dated in the early 90s and remained friends in the years after.
The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Grohl for comment but has yet to hear back.

Violet also shared a post from filmmaker Scott Crawford, which featured an old black and white image of Finch.
She reposted it to her Instagram Stories and added the note, ‘Rest in peace, legend,’ with a broken heart emoji.
Nearly two years ago, in September 2024, Finch came to Grohl’s defense during a rocky point in his marriage to Jordyn Blum.
Amid the revelation that the Foo Fighters frontman had fathered a child outside out of wedlock, she told TMZ that he was ‘doing everything he can for his family.’
She added that he is ‘a top-tier dad and friend.’ In addition to Violet, Grohl shares Harper, 17, and Ophelia, 12 in August, with Blum.
His fourth daughter, born to his mistress and whose name has not been announced publicly, was born in 2024.
Finch also told the outlet that Grohl had been ‘giving it his all in spite of the messy situation,’ vowing that she would not speak in detail about the ordeal until his youngest daughter became a legal adult.
The musician’s death comes just days after she underwent brain surgery to treat an ‘aggressive’ form of cancer.
Earlier this week she’d shared a photo of her surgery scar as her family and friends asked for donations to help fight her cancer battle.

She went public on Monday with news that she had been diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Her bandmates announced her illness in an Instagram statement, revealing she was forced to pull out of their upcoming farewell tour.
‘Following multiple surgeries and serious complications, Jennifer now requires extensive medical care, rehabilitation and professional in-home support,’ the post read.
There was a link to a GoFundMe set up by her loved ones, which featured a picture of a smiling Finch pulling back her hair to reveal the still healing incision after one operation.
She received an outpouring of support on the crowdfunding platform, and as of Saturday evening there was a total of $393,596 donations, surpassing the original goal of $350,000.
It was noted that proceeds would ‘allow Jennifer to remain safely and comfortably at home’ throughout her treatment.
