Carrie Underwood was the big winner at the 2019 CMT Awards Wednesday at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, as she captured the awards for Video of the Year and Female Video of the Year, while pleasing the crowd with a passionate performance of her single Southbound.Â
The 36-year-old singer won Female Video of the Year for her video Love Wins, beating out Brandi Carlile’s The Joke, Carlly Pearce’s Closer To You, Kacey Musgraves’ Space Cowboy, Kelsea Ballerini’s Miss Me More, Maren Morris’ GIRL and Miranda Lambert’s Keeper of the Flame.Â
A surprised Underwood took to the stage wearing a sparkling mini-dress to accept her award from presenter Trisha Yearwood.
First win:Â The CMT Awards 2019 kicked off on Wednesday night in Nashville with Carrie Underwood, 36, winning the first award of the night, Female Video of the Year
‘Thank you so much fans, Oh my gosh,’ she began, before thanking the director of her video, Shane Drake.Â

Toward the end of the evening, she bested a talented quartet of competitors that included Keith Urban feat. Julia Michaels for Coming Home, Kelsea Ballerini for Miss Me More, Luke Combs for She Got the Best of Me and Kane Brown for Good as You.
Underwood thanked her glam squad and fans as she accepted the honors for the prestigious honors.
‘You guys put us here,’ Underwood said. ‘You guys keep us going, you guys let us live out our dreams … I’m just glad to be in this family.’Â

Urban said during his acceptance speech for Collaborative Video Of The Year, ‘Thank you for the fans who voted for this video,’ also thanking Kidman, who was not on hand as she is working in New York Wednesday. He later delivered a spirited rendition of his song We Were.
Keith thanked Nicole in his speech, using her first and middle name: ‘My wife, Nicole Mary, who’s at home tonight. She’s working in New York, actually. I wish you were here, baby girl, I miss you.’Â

The night kicked off with an opening performance by Little Big Town, Trombone Shorty and Thomas Rhett singing Don’t Threaten Me With a Good Time. After that performance, they kicked it outside to Kane Brown who sang his hit song Short Skirt Weather.
Boyz II Men was a fan favorite as they took the stage with Brent Young as part of CMT Crossroads TV program with a mashup of Young’s Here Tonight and the RB staple’s Water Runs Dry.

Dan and Shay took the stage to deliver their track All To Myself, while Tanya Tucker and Brandi Carlisle wowed the crowd singing Delta Dawn. Luke Combs also performed, belting out his light-hearted Beer Never Broke My Heart.
Mitchell Tenpenny delivered his single Drunk Me, after which Maddie Tae introduced Underwood as the Video of the Year.
