Benny Blanco has opened up about the early days of his relationship with wife Selena Gomez.
The 38-year-old music producer revealed the important question Gomez, 33, asked him when they first struck up a romance.
‘She asked me, “Are you sure you want to do this? I understand if you want us to just be friends,”‘ he told the Spanish publication El País.
Gomez’s pertinent question was posited due to her immense fame as a singer, actress, and beauty mogul.
Blanco said he decided to embrace a public-facing romance.
‘And then I said, “You know what? Screw it.” We’re lucky because we both have friends and family we’ve known since before all this, and we’re surrounded by a good group of people we love,’ he explained.

Elsewhere in his conversation with the outlet, the musician admitted, ‘I don’t like to expose my life. Famous people are under constant scrutiny: if you say one thing, it’s wrong, and if you say another, it’s also wrong.’
Prior to making his status with Gomez public, the pair ‘kept our relationship private for a long time, about eight or nine months,’ said the producer.
They confirmed their relationship in December 2023 and got engaged a year later.
‘Forever starts now,’ the songstress wrote on social media at the time, flaunting her sparkling diamond engagement ring.
They tied the knot nearly two years later with a September 2025 ceremony in Santa Barbara.
Ahead of their wedding, the couple celebrated their love story with a joint album, I Said I Love You First, released in March 2025.
Last November Gomez described the first weeks of their marriage as ‘a dream’ in an interview with Zane Lowe.
She added, ‘And I know it’ll come with ebbs and flows, but [he’s] the most beautiful person I could do that with.’

Earlier this year the newlyweds were forced to spend time apart as Gomez filmed the latest season of her hit Hulu series Only Murders In the Building overseas.
The Emmy-nominated actress wrote in a May Instagram post, ‘I miss my love,’ while sharing a throwback photo of her and her husband.
But the pair reunited on July 3 as they attended her BFF Taylor Swift’s wedding to Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden.
Blanco is currently busy promoting his forthcoming Spanish-language album Hermoso, due out in August.
And in September he will publish a biography/self-help book titled F*ck Failure.
