The MTV Movie Awards are known for their outrageous moments, with the final award of the night providing quite the big surprise.
Tessa Thompson was the final presenter of the night, presenting the evening’s awards for Best Movie, which was won by box office blockbuster Avengers: Endgame.
Director Anthony Russo came up to accept the top award, revealing that he was old enough to remember MTV’s beginnings, before revealing surprise videos from Avengers: Endgame stars Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr.

‘Thank you MTV. Tessa, unlike you and most people in this room, I was actually there watching when MTV started, so it’s particularly mind-blowing to be here,’ he began.
‘A movie like this one is only possible because it was built on the shoulders of so many great storytellers and so many great artists, all the way back to its origins, the late great Stan Lee,’ Russo added, as the crowd applauded for the late comics legend, who made cameos in every Marvel movie.
Russo then had a big surprise for fans, throwing it to a video message from Chris Hemsworth, who said, ‘First of all, I would like to thank all the fans who have come along with us.’
He threw it over to Robert Downey Jr., who thanked Russo since film is a ‘director’s medium.’Â

After Zachary Levi’s opening monologue and Sandra Bullock winning the first award for Most Frightened Performance for Bird Box, Shazam! star Levi paid tribute to The Rock.
And Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson kicked things off while accepting the Generation Award with an emotional speech.Â
After an entertaining montage of The Rock’s films, a number of dancers took to the stage to perform a haka set to Queen’s We Will Rock You.
The Rock himself came bursting onto the stage getting the crowd pumped up before Levi handed him his award.

Sandra Bullock won the first award of the night, taking home the Most Frightened Performance for her turn in Netflix’s Bird Box.Â

The first controversial moment of the night happened when Love Hip Hop: Atlanta won Reality Royalty award, but The Challenge star Johnny Bananas took the stage first, as reportedly earlier on Monday.
However, the moment where Bananas took the stage was cut out of the telecast, though he was seen briefly running towards the stage in one of the shots.
Kumail Nanjiani and Dave Bautista, stars of the upcoming movie Stuber, presented the Best Fight award, which Brie Larson won for her fight with Minn-Erva (Gemma Chan) in Captain Marvel.

Jada Pinkett Smith will be bestowed with the evening’s Trailblazer Award, with her Girls Trip co-star Tiffany Haddish presenting her the award.
‘She’s taken us into The Matrix and to Madagascar and you could call her career a big Girls Trip,’ Haddish joked.
Haddish then went on to praise her work with the Will Jada Pinkett Smith Foundation.

Lady Gaga won Best Performance in a Movie for her performance in A Star Is Born, but she could not accept the award since she is performing in Las Vegas.

The stars of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina – Kiernan Shipka, Ross Lynch and Gavin Leatherwood – presented the Best Kiss award, which was won by Noah Centineo Lana Condor (Peter Kavinsky Lara Jean) from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.

‘It’s not only cool to be holding this popcorn but be in this category that encapsulates all TV performances, which happened to be filled with bad-ass women.’
She went on to thank the fans and everyone who voted for her for this award, before sending a special message to women everywhere.
‘To all my ladies out there, keep up the fight, I stand right alongside you, and don’t let the bastards grind you down,’ Moss concluded. Â
