DNC: New December debate location will be Loyola Marymount University

WASHINGTON – The Democratic National Committee announced Friday that the new location for the December primary debate will be at Loyola Marymount University.

“This afternoon PBS and Politico will announce that our December Democratic presidential primary debate will be held at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles,” the DNC sent in an email to campaigns.

The debate was originally going to be held at the University of California, Los Angeles. The DNC told PBS Newshour and Politico on Wednesday to find a new location as a result of a letter the university’s union sent to six campaigns.

Kathryn Lybarger, president of AFSCME 3299, an affiliate of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees that represents at least 10 University of California campuses, in the letter called on the campaigns to endorse the boycott by “refusing to attend or speak at any UC events until the University addresses these issues and settles a fair contract with the workers who make it run.”

The letter was sent to former Vice President Joe Biden, Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Cory Booker and Kamala, and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

The debate, which is the final one for the year, will be held on Dec. 19.
