Trump says 'Women for Kavanaugh' aren't 'paid professional protesters'

Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine said Friday she will vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination, all but ensuring the Senate will elevate the conservative jurist to the nation’s highest court. (Oct. 5)

Just hours before a Senate vote on Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination, President Donald Trump showed his support for people rallying near the Capitol in support of his Supreme Court pick, while blasting opponents who also planned demonstrations. 

“Women for Kavanaugh, and many others who support this very good man, are gathering all over Capital Hill in preparation for a 3-5 P.M. VOTE,” he tweeted. “It is a beautiful thing to see – and they are not paid professional protesters who are handed expensive signs. Big day for America!”

Trump has often claimed, without offering any evidence, that demonstrators rallying against him and his policies are “paid.”

While anti-Kavanaugh protesters have recently swarmed Capitol Hill to show their opposition to the nominee amid accusations of sexual assault against him, a contingent of women and men supporting the judge have also rallied in Washington, D.C.

After Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, Jeff Flake, R-Arizona, and Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia, announced Friday they’d back Kavanaugh, his confirmation to the nation’s highest court appears highly likely, barring an last-minute changes.
