Rep. Maxine Waters says she isn't running for president

Rep. Maxine Waters on Friday squashed rumors that she’ll throw her hat into the 2020 presidential election ring.

The California Democrat was asked about her supposed future plans during an appearance on The View.

“That’s simply a rumor, everybody,” said Waters, who has served in the House since 1991. “I am not running for anything except the impeachment of Trump!”

Of course, Waters may have stoked the rumors herself, with a recent visit to New Hampshire and jokingly saying of a 2020 bid last month, “If the millennials wanted me to do it, I’d do it.”

Waters has been something of a viral sensation in the past week, after she used the phrase “reclaiming my time” during a standoff with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin during a House committee hearing.
