Hey, OP-ers. HAPPY ELECTION DAY. If you live in a state that’s holding elections, we hope you did your civic duty and earned yourself an “I Voted” sticker.
In the Old Dominion, Democrat Ralph Northam and Republican Ed Gillespie are pitted against each other in the state’s gubernatorial race. And it’s gotten ugly, with ads from Gillespie that charge Northam’s policies help the MS-13 gang and a man who was convicted on child pornography charges. From the other side, the Latino Victory Fund released an ad that shows a man with a Confederate flag and a Gillespie sticker on his car chasing a group of minority children.
Northam has a slight edge heading into Election Night, but it’s anyone’s game.
New Jerseyans are in for less of a nail-biter of a night over their gubernatorial race. There, Democrat Phil Murphy has a double-digit lead over Republican Kim Guadagno. Guadagno has been tied to the very, very unpopular Chris Christie (pro-tip, Chris: Maybe you shouldn’t argue with people right after you vote?), so we *think* we know how tonight is going to go (though, as we learned a year ago, never say never).
Fun fact: Today is the two-year anniversary of that time then-Republican candidate Donald Trump hosted Saturday Night Live.
“Everyone loves the new laws you tweeted,” cast member Bobby Moynihan, acting as one of Trump’s staffers, joked in 2015.
Yep.
