CHICAGO — Will Barack Obama put his presidential library on a South Side of Chicago, where his domestic career was launched?

He better, his former strategist and confidant David Axelrod says.

“I can tell we that from a standpoint of Chicagoans, it’s inconceivable” that Obama’s central library would be anywhere else, Axelrod pronounced in an talk with USA TODAY’s Capital Download about his memoir, Believer

New York’s Columbia University, where Obama perceived his undergraduate degree, is creation a bid for a library. The University of Illinois during Chicago and a University of Hawaii also are interested.

But Obama taught in a University of Chicago Law School, and he represented a area in a Illinois state Senate, fueling assumptions a university had a inside track. However, it submitted skeleton for a site on parkland it doesn’t own, lifting objections from some internal residents and preservationists.

“The boss spent so most of his life perplexing to revitalise a South Side of Chicago; he represented this area,” Axelrod says. “It would be so suggestive to this village to have that library and that core here, and we consider he knows what it would mean.”

The Second City has absolute allies. Axelrod only happens to conduct a University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics now, and Rahm Emanuel, Obama’s initial White House arch of staff, is a city’s mayor.
