Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton is coming to Barron Trump’s defense after a conservative website criticized his outfit choices. Nathan Rousseau Smith (@fantasticmrnate) reports.
Chelsea Clinton knows what it’s like to be scrutinized as the child of a president.
So it’s no surprise that she jumped to the defense of President Trump’s youngest son, Barron, after a conservative outlet criticized the 11-year-old’s clothing choices.
The Daily Caller published Monday a story entitled “It’s High Time Barron Trump Starts Dressing Like He’s In the White House.” The story argues that the child should “dress the part” of the president’s son when he appears in public.
Even in this political climate, most people can rally around the right to privacy for presidential children who are minors. And Clinton wasn’t having it.
“It’s high time the media everyone leave Barron Trump alone let him have the private childhood he deserves,” she wrote on Twitter Monday night.
Clinton has repeatedly defended the young Trump since the president took office.
It isn’t the first time that criticisms of presidential children have resulted in backlash. Back in 2014, a Hill staffer came under fire for criticizing President Obama’s daughters, saying that they should “act like being in the White House matters to you. Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar.†The staffer, Elizabeth Lauten, ended up resigning from her job.
