Two film theaters nearby a Church of Scientology’s universe domicile in Clearwater, Florida, have canceled screenings of HBO’s ban documentary, “Going Clear,”pressured by church members
“Going Clear,” an Emmy-winning documentary destined by Alex Gibney formed on Lawrence Wright’s acclaimed 2013 non-fiction book of a same name, debuted during a 2015 Sundance Film Festival and aired on HBO in March. The film was expelled to a singular series of theaters in a spring, and is slated to return to theaters on Sept. 25
Cobb Theatres’ Countryside 12, located 7 miles northeast of a church headquarters, had been scheduled to start display a documentary on Oct. 2. But final week, according to The Hollywood Reporter
HBO responded by relocating a screening to a AMC Woodlands Square 20 in Oldsmar, Florida, 10 mins from a Countryside 12. But on Monday, managers of that museum told HBO they would be incompetent to accommodate a film since of “space reasons.”Â

The documentary uses endless interviews from former Scientology members to exhibit how a church has suppressed critique of a practices. One instance was a allegation debate a church allegedly called “Operation Freakout”
A church deputy told The Huffington Post in an email that it would be “inaccurate to contend a Church has ‘pressured’ any theater.”
“Like a movie, these stories are novella and paint nonetheless another shameless broadside attempt about Gibney’s movie,” a matter continued.Â
HBO member pronounced in an email to HuffPost that “Going Clear” will be screening in dual film theaters in a Tampa area, rather than a one that a network had planned. It will be display in a AMC Veterans 24Muvico Palm Harbor 10
