Prior to marrying, White says that she rebuffed Ludden’s proposals for an whole year before similar to travel down a aisle.
“[I said], no, we wouldn’t marry him,” she tells Oprah. “Saying, no, we won’t leave California. No, we won’t pierce to New York.”
Though White now realizes how changed that time was, she is still beholden for a 18 years they did have as father and wife.
“I squandered a whole year we could have had together,” she says. “But we done it. We finally did.”
