Casey DeSantis, Florida’s first lady, diagnosed with breast cancer

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Casey DeSantis, wife to Gov. Ron DeSantis, is battling breast cancer, the governor’s office announced Monday. 

“Casey is the centerpiece of our family and has made an impact on the lives of countless Floridians through her initiatives as first lady,” Gov. Ron DeSantis said in a statement.

“As she faces the most difficult test of her life, she will have not only have my unwavering support but the support of our entire family, as well as the prayers and well wishes from Floridians across our state.

“Casey is a true fighter, and she will never, never, never give up.”

A native of Troy, Ohio, and a graduate of the College of Charleston, Casey DeSantis, 41, had established a broadcast career working for the PGA Tour before marrying the governor in 2010.

As Florida’s first lady, Casey DeSantis adopted mental health promotion as a signature issue, worked initiatives to benefit foster children, boosted partnerships between faith-based organizations and government  and championed character education standards in public schools.

DeSantis is the mother of three children: 4-year-old Madison, 3-year-old Mason, and 18-month old Mamie, the first baby born in the Governor’s Mansion in more than 50 years.
