Black women face obstacles to political office despite Biden’s Supreme Court nomination vow
President Joe Biden followed through on a presidential campaign promise when he pledged to nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court following Justice Stephen Breyer’s formal announcement of retirement Thursday.
“The person I will nominate will be someone of extraordinary qualifications, character, experience and integrity. And that person will be the first Black woman ever nominated to the United States Supreme Court,” the president said Thursday during remarks at the White House. “It’s long overdue in my view.”
