Mayor Zohran Mamdani has attracted more than a dozen executives to his fledgling business advisory council, despite widespread fears among many Wall Street leaders that the mayor’s democratic socialist views will harm New York City’s economy.
The list of 15 Wall Street, real estate and health care executives includes Scott Rechler, who runs the real estate behemoth RXR; Hamdi Ulukaya, the billionaire chief executive of Chobani; Kevin Ryan, a prominent New York tech investor; and Priscilla Sims Brown, the chief executive of Amalgamated Bank.
The Mamdani administration is expected to formally announce the appointments as early as Thursday. When The New York Times sought comment on the impending announcement, City Hall officials shared the full roster with The Times.
The council does not include any executives from some of New York’s largest employers in finance, including JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, American Express and BlackRock, or from big technology firms, including Meta and Alphabet. But the health care industry, a significant source of job growth in the city, is heavily represented.
