Former Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP John Rafferty dies

Former New Democrat MP John Rafferty, who represented a Thunder Bay-Rainy River roving on Parliament Hill for dual terms, is being distinguished for his consolation and loyalty after his genocide from cancer this weekend.

Rafferty’s mother pronounced on Facebook on Sunday that a former MP had upheld away. He was 65 years old.

Rafferty served as MP from 2008 to 2015, and his genocide led to many expressions of magnetism and condolences from Canadian politicians of all stripes.

“John Rafferty served a people of Thunder Bay and Canada with loyalty and integrity, and he will not be forgotten,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau pronounced in a tweet. “My deepest condolences to his family and desired ones.”

Current sovereign NDP personality Jagmeet Singh pronounced on amicable media he was saddened to hear of Rafferty’s passing.

“John was a fighter, dynamic to paint a people of Thunder Bay—Rainy River with firmness purpose,” Singh tweeted on Monday. “We’re all improved since of his service. My heart goes out to his family desired ones during this formidable time.

Provincial NDP personality Andrea Horwath also addressed Rafferty’s passing, observant in a matter a former MP was dedicated to his community, and driven by empathy.

“He done a universe around him a better, some-more carefree place,” Horwath stated. “All those who knew him, including those propitious adequate to have been friends and colleagues with John in a NDP family, will remember fondly and skip deeply his caring nature, his abiding adore of Thunder Bay and Northern Ontario, and generally his foul clarity of humour.”

“John wanted to make life improved for others — his family, his village and generally a many exposed among us. we wish all his desired ones find comfort now in meaningful that he did that.”

Rafferty was a radio broadcaster in Thunder Bay before creation a pierce to politics. He ran in several elections before winning a seat.

Provincially, Rafferty ran in a Thunder Bay-Atikokan roving in 2003 and 2007, losing in both instances to Liberal Bill Mauro.

Federally, Rafferty was a NDP’s Thunder Bay-Superor North claimant in 2000, and Thunder Bay-Rainy River in 2004 and 2006.

And while those campaigns weren’t successful, Rafferty did win a seat in Parliament in 2008, representing Thunder Bay-Rainy River.

Rafferty would offer dual terms as an MP before losing his chair to Liberal Don Rusnak in a 2015 sovereign election.

In 2017, Rafferty announced he was re-entering politics, and dictated to again find a provincial Thunder Bay-Atikokan seat in a 2018 Ontario election.

However, he would repel from a competition in Jan 2018, citing a critical medical condition.
