Brian Schatz (Hawaii) decried how single-payer has become a litmus test among progressives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">&#8220;I&#8217;ll just make one broader point\u00a0about\u00a0healthcare and politics. It&#8217;s only in healthcare where, if you are not for a single player, you are immediately a\u00a0sell-out. It is only in healthcare where everything becomes a litmus test\u00a0about\u00a0your progressive purity,&#8221; Schatz\u00a0<a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And I think that&#8217;s nuts,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Schatz made the point after discussing his own plan for healthcare reform, which is &#8220;Medicaid for All&#8221; or &#8220;Medicaid for anyone who wants to buy into it,&#8221; as compared to the\u00a0<a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">plan introduced by<\/a>\u00a0Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), &#8220;Medicare for All.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think Medicaid should compete with these private sector options.
