{"id":78458,"date":"2017-05-29T22:03:57","date_gmt":"2017-05-29T22:03:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/usa.timesofnews.com\/niki-ashton-says-shes-pregnant-pressing-on-with-ndp-leadership-bid.html"},"modified":"2017-05-29T22:03:57","modified_gmt":"2017-05-29T22:03:57","slug":"niki-ashton-says-shes-pregnant-pressing-on-with-ndp-leadership-bid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usa.timesofnews.com\/breaking-news\/political\/niki-ashton-says-shes-pregnant-pressing-on-with-ndp-leadership-bid.html","title":{"rendered":"Niki Ashton says she&#8217;s pregnant, pressing on with NDP leadership bid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Manitoba MP Niki Ashton is expecting a baby in November, the NDP leadership hopeful announced Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Ashton is one of six candidates seeking the party&#8217;s top job \u2014 a leadership race scheduled to wrap up in October, when rank-and-file members pick a successor to Tom Mulcair.<\/p>\n<p>And she has no plans to slow down, despite her pregnancy, she said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m happy to share the news that I&#8217;m expecting,&#8221; Ashton said.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">NDP leadership debate brings 2 new candidates to the race<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;Like millions of Canadian women I will carry on my work. This means continuing to reach out to New Democrats, activists and progressives across the country to build a movement for social, environmental and economic justice for all.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ashton said she intends to visit B.C. and the Atlantic provinces in the next two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Her competitors in the race include Quebec MP Guy Caron, Ontario legislature member Jagmeet Singh, Ontario MP Charlie Angus, former veterans ombudsman Pat Stogran and B.C.
