If we are not, this could very well be one of the last,&#8221; he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u200b<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/grenier-ceta-poll-ari-1.3983997\">Most Canadians approve of trade deal with EU, poll suggests<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/ceta-approved-wednesday-1.3983494\">European Parliament approves trade deal with Canada<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The deal came together\u00a0in the face of an increasingly hostile, populist opposition that now includes the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump&#8217;s ambassador designate to the EU, Ted Malloch, said earlier this week that the EU&#8217;s &#8220;blatant anti-Americanism&#8221; is &#8220;problematic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In his speech, Trudeau said people who complain that trade deals benefit only a few have a valid concern, but deals like the Canada-EU free trade pact are good for all.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The anxiety people have towards the economy and trade \u2014 the worry that our kids won&#8217;t have access to the same jobs and opportunities that we had \u2014\u00a0can be addressed only if we ensure that trade is inclusive, so that everyone benefits,&#8221; he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And this agreement \u2026 delivers just that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Trudeau will next travel to Berlin to meet with German President Joachim Gauck. (Patrick Seeger\/EPA)<\/p>\n<h2>Celebrating free trade<\/h2>\n<p>On Wednesday, European Parliament members approved CETA\u00a0with 58 per cent of members voting to adopt it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Most of the members\u00a0representing Europe&#8217;s centrist parties voted\u00a0in favour of the deal, with opposition from members representing left-leaning socialist and\u00a0Green as well as right-wing, nationalist parties.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Of the 695 members present in the\u00a0751-seat\u00a0legislature, 408 voted in favour, 254 against\u00a0and 33 abstained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"figure-caption\"><strong class=\"spaced\">Trudeau&#8217;s full speech to the European Parliament<\/strong>16:16<\/p>\n<p>The House of Commons passed C-30, Canada&#8217;s implementation legislation, at third reading Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Both Liberals and Conservatives\u00a0\u2014 who were in power when the deal was negotiated\u00a0\u2014 supported the bill.
