Speaking directly to the country&#8217;s one million Muslims, he reassured them of their valued place in Canadian society.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are with you. Thirty-six million hearts\u00a0are breaking with yours,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Know that we value you, you enrich our shared country in\u00a0immeasurable\u00a0ways. CBCnews.ca is carrying his remarks live.<\/p>\n<p>Trudeau\u00a0urged Canadians not to be intimidated by Sunday&#8217;s attack, or those who use violence to instill fear and division.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They aim to divide us,\u00a0to sow discord and plant hatred,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We will not close our minds. We will open our hearts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"figure-caption\"><strong class=\"spaced\">Trudeau: &#8216;Canadians will not be broken by this violence&#8217;<\/strong>5:16<\/p>\n<p \/>\n<p>Four party leaders delivered statements before the House rose for a minute&#8217;s silence to honour the victims.<\/p>\n<p>Interim Conservative Leader Rona Ambrose called the attack a &#8220;sad reminder&#8221; that Canada is not immune to terrorism and must remain vigilant. She said the shooting struck the heart of a fundamental freedom in Canada: to practise one&#8217;s faith in safety and security.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;An attack against a place of worship, against people praying in a mosque is an attack on these very freedoms,&#8221; she said. &#8220;It negates the principles on which Canada was founded.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>NDP Leader Tom Mulcair said the shootings have shaken Canada to its very core, calling for all Canadians to unite against the forced of hatred, bigotry and Islamophobia.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is not the Canada we believe in, it&#8217;s not the type of society we want to live in,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Canada is a country of diversity, peace and inclusion. We cannot, and we will not, tolerate hate and violence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Trudeau will travel\u00a0to Quebec City later Monday to attend a\u00a0vigil for the victims. He will be accompanied by Ambrose, Mulcair and Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"figure-caption\"><strong class=\"spaced\">Ambrose, Mulcair and May offer condolences in House of Commons<\/strong>3:37<\/p>\n<p>Green Party Leader Elizabeth May&#8217;s office said she planned to attend the vigil as well.<\/p>\n<h2>Trump offers assistance<\/h2>\n<p>Messages of shock, support and\u00a0solidarity are flooding\u00a0in from across the country and around the\u00a0world in response to the attack.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. President Donald Trump called Trudeau to express\u00a0his condolences to the prime minister and\u00a0Canadians. He also\u00a0offered to provide any assistance as needed, according to the PMO.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian flag atop the Peace Tower is at half-mast in honour of the victims.<\/p>\n<p \/>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/montreal\/quebec-city-mosque-gun-shots-1.3957686\">2 arrested in mosque shooting<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/parliament-resumes-trudeau-government-1.3955841\">Attack casts pall over Parliament<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>During a news conference Monday, the\u00a0RCMP\u00a0said\u00a0the motives behind the mass shooting aren&#8217;t clear.<\/p>\n<p>Trudeau\u00a0was quick to condemn it as a &#8220;terrorist attack&#8221; on Muslims.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While authorities are still investigating and details continue to be confirmed, it is heart-wrenching to see such senseless violence.
