{"id":64837,"date":"2017-01-27T06:05:46","date_gmt":"2017-01-27T06:05:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/usa.timesofnews.com\/transcanada-submits-new-application-for-keystone-xl-pipeline.html"},"modified":"2017-01-27T06:05:46","modified_gmt":"2017-01-27T06:05:46","slug":"transcanada-submits-new-application-for-keystone-xl-pipeline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usa.timesofnews.com\/breaking-news\/political\/transcanada-submits-new-application-for-keystone-xl-pipeline.html","title":{"rendered":"TransCanada submits new application for Keystone XL pipeline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TransCanada\u00a0Corp. said Thursday it has submitted a new presidential permit application to the U.S. Department of State for approval of the Keystone XL pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>In a release issued after the close of stock market trading,\u00a0TransCanada\u00a0president and CEO Russ\u00a0Girling\u00a0said Keystone XL will help the U.S. meet its growing energy needs.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">Muscling in reforms&#8217;: How executive actions help U.S. presidents push through their agendas<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">What does Donald Trump&#8217;s Keystone XL pipeline OK mean for Energy East?<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The company&#8217;s application comes just days after new U.S. President Donald Trump signed executive actions to move forward on construction of two controversial oil pipelines that affect Canada, giving his OK to the\u00a0Keystone XL and Dakota Access projects.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are going to renegotiate some of the terms&#8221; Trump said Tuesday in the White House as he signed the executive order that invited TransCanada to resubmit its application for the proposed project.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Former U.S. president\u00a0Barack\u00a0Obama\u00a0blocked the Keystone XL project in late 2015, when he said it would have undercut U.S. efforts to clinch a global climate change deal that was a centrepiece of his environmental legacy.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed 1,900-kilometre\u00a0pipeline would run from Hardisty, Alta., to Steele City, Neb., where it would tie into other pipelines carrying crude to U.S. Gulf Coast refineries.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. State Department will review the application and has 60 days to issue a decision, according to published reports earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0&#8220;[Keystone Xl] will strengthen the United States&#8217; energy security and\u00a0remains in the national interest,&#8221; Girling said in a \u00a0company\u00a0release.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Trump&#8217;s executive order, the project still faces hurdles.
