{"id":62972,"date":"2017-01-12T17:44:08","date_gmt":"2017-01-12T17:44:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/usa.timesofnews.com\/trudeau-kicks-off-cross-canada-tour-as-controversies-swirl-around-fundraising-family-vacation.html"},"modified":"2017-01-12T17:44:08","modified_gmt":"2017-01-12T17:44:08","slug":"trudeau-kicks-off-cross-canada-tour-as-controversies-swirl-around-fundraising-family-vacation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usa.timesofnews.com\/breaking-news\/political\/trudeau-kicks-off-cross-canada-tour-as-controversies-swirl-around-fundraising-family-vacation.html","title":{"rendered":"Trudeau kicks off cross-Canada tour as controversies swirl around fundraising, family vacation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Prime Minister Justin Trudeau\u00a0today kicked\u00a0off a\u00a0cross-country tour to connect with grassroots Canadians\u00a0as controversies brew over &#8220;cash-for-access&#8221; political fundraising and a family vacation\u00a0at the Bahamian island property of the Aga Khan.<\/p>\n<p>His campaign-style trip begins in\u00a0eastern Ontario, with stops in Manotick, Brockville, Kingston, Napanee and Belleville before staying\u00a0the night in Trenton.\u00a0The Ontario swing picks up Friday and winds up in\u00a0London, Ont.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We see this tour as part of a concerted effort to remain connected to Canadians, at home in their communities,&#8221; said Cameron Ahmad, a spokesman for the Prime Minister&#8217;s Office.\u00a0&#8220;The prime minister wants to hear from them on how they are feeling at the start of 2017, what their concerns and anxieties are, and what we can do to help alleviate that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The PM will also visit Quebec, B.C. and the Prairies, then the Atlantic provinces and the North.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">Critics call Trudeau trip &#8216;inappropriate&#8217;<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">Tour not meant to mine voter data<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Participants were invited to RSVP on the local MP&#8217;s website, raising questions about whether the information would be used by the Liberal Party for political purposes.<\/p>\n<p>But Ahmad said signing up on the websites\u00a0is not mandatory, and was intended to inform people on updates with details of the events.<\/p>\n<h2>Encouraging attendance<\/h2>\n<p>&#8220;We wanted to ensure that attendance at these events would not be simply be limited to partisans or Liberals.
