Newsom announcing more stimulus checks ahead of the recall vote. <\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0);\">California <\/a>Gov. <a href=\"javascript:void(0);\">Gavin Newsom<\/a>\u2019s anti-recall campaign received a $3 million donation from <a href=\"javascript:void(0);\">Netflix <\/a>co-CEO Reed Hastings, a Thursday filing to the California secretary of state\u00a0said, according to reports.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">It was the Stop The Republican Recall committee\u2019s largest donation to date, according to Politico.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Newsom, who is expected to face a recall vote in the fall due to an effort started by Republicans and others who criticized his coronavirus restrictions, has an advantage over his challengers in that state law allows him to raise unlimited amounts of money. Conversely, his challengers are limited to $32,400\u00a0in their direct accounts because of campaign laws.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>State law views Newsom\u2019s defense of the recall effort as a ballot issue, not a run for office, according to Politico.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A February filing showed\u00a0Hastings also donated $32,400 and $29,600 to Newsom\u2019s campaign. His wife donated identical amounts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"javascript:void(0);\"><strong>NETFLIX CEO MAKES HUGE DONATION TO GAVIN NEWSOM CAMPAIGN AS RECALL BATTLE INTENSIFIES<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In 2018, Hastings reportedly donated $7 million to a charter school-related political action committee that backed\u00a0Antonio Villaraigosa, one of Newsom\u2019s primary opponents, before Newsom advanced to the general election, <a href=\"javascript:void(0);\">Deadline <\/a>reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hastings is a longtime Democratic donor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Newsom has received other big-name donations from celebrities like filmmaker J.J. Abrams; San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York and billionaire couple Stewart and Lynda Resnick, according to <a href=\"javascript:void(0);\">Politico<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Republican challengers to Newsom include John Cox, who lost to Newsom in 2018; former U.S. Rep. Doug Ose; former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and reality TV star and former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>State election officials announced last month\u00a0the recall effort had garnered more than the 1.5 million valid signatures needed make the ballot.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"javascript:void(0);\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If the Newsom recall formally qualifies for the ballot, as expected, voters would be asked two questions \u2014\u00a0first, whether the governor should be removed from office.
