The U.S. Park Police<\/a> union Friday condemned\u00a0“incorrect” narratives and “biased news <\/a>reports” criticizing officers\u2019 actions amid the riot at the U.S. Capitol<\/a> Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Union officials claimed politicians from both parties have used police as political pawns.<\/p>\n

“It is disheartening, to say the least, when our officers return home to see inaccurate and biased news reports that feature Members of Congress, from both political parties, who continue to use law enforcement officers as pawns in the political process,” said Kenneth Spencer, chairman of the\u00a0U.S. Park Police Fraternal Order of Police<\/a>, in a statement, according to the Washington Examiner.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Many Democrats, including President-elect Joe Biden<\/a>, claimed that some of the officers protecting the Capitol during the riot treated the Trump supporters far better than Black Lives Matter rioters have been handled by officers in recent months.<\/p>\n

“No one can tell me that if it had been a group of Black Lives Matter protesters yesterday that they wouldn\u2019t have been treated very differently than the mob that stormed the Capitol,” Biden wrote Thursday on Twitter. “We all know that\u2019s true \u2014 and it\u2019s unacceptable.”<\/p>\n

Liberal MSNBC host Joy Reid said Wednesday that, “White Americans are never afraid of the cops, even when they are committing insurrection.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Even when they\u2019re engaged in attempting to occupy our Capitol to steal the votes of people who look like me because, in their minds, they own this country, they own that Capitol,” she said. “They own the cops. The cops work for them and people like me have no damn right to try to elect a president, because we don’t get to pick the president. They get to pick the president. They own the president. They own the White House. They own this country.”<\/p>\n

Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund also defended the\u00a0response of his officers and took the blame for the security failure.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Once the breach of the Capitol building was inevitable, we prioritized lives over property, leading people to safety,” he said in a statement. “Not one Member of Congress or their staff was injured. Our officers did their jobs. Our leadership did not.”<\/p>\n

Sund resigned from his position Thursday, effective Jan. 16.<\/p>\n

ABC News anchors\u00a0didn\u2019t push back<\/a>\u00a0when a guest claimed Black Live Matter protests were largely “peaceful,” and the HuffPost declared<\/a>\u00a0in a headline: “For Police, MAGA Insurrectionists Weren\u2019t A Threat. Black Lives Matter Was.”<\/p>\n

Members of both parties have questioned why the Capitol was so vulnerable to breach but many have careful to blame faulty\u00a0planning, not the responding officers themselves.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s going to be very hard for me to not hug every single Capitol Police officer I pass through security or in the hallways,” Bailee Beshires, press assistant for Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., wrote Thursday. “Those men and women are heroes who deserve more than what happened to them yesterday.”<\/p>\n

Sean Hannity on Thursday said the breach exposed a “massive vulnerability”<\/a>\u00a0in security at the Capitol.<\/p>\n

“We must determine what went\u00a0wrong at the U.S. Capitol, that\u00a0is our top priority,” the “Hannity<\/a>” host said.\u00a0“Americans demand answers,\u00a0rightly so.\u00a0What we all witnessed yesterday\u00a0inside the Capitol building,\u00a0that could never, ever, ever happen again in\u00a0this country.\u00a0That building belongs to we the\u00a0people.\u00a0This is our house and it was\u00a0breached, and it was breached\u00a0within minutes with relative\u00a0ease … it’s inexplicable.”<\/p>\n

CAPITOL RIOT: MEDIA MIRRORS BIDEN BY VILLIFYING POLICE, COMPARING RESPONSE TO BLACK LIVES MATTER PROTESTS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

FOP leader Spencer, who said the U.S.\u00a0Park Police gave the Capitol Police tactical support,\u00a0criticized the “reckless planning” by the Capitol Police\u00a0management.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“It was clear that the management for the United States Capitol Police had wildly underestimated the risk for violence at the demonstration,” he said of when Park Police officers arrived, according to the Examiner<\/a>.\u00a0“Despite the reckless planning by their management, and at great risk to their own personal safety, Capitol Police officers continued to serve with dignity and professionalism amid the overwhelming chaos and hostility.”<\/p>\n

In Wednesday\u2019s melee, one rioter was fatally shot and\u00a0Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick<\/a> died of injuries suffered in the riot. Three others died of medical emergencies either during or before the riot.<\/p>\n
